SIAM UKIE National Student Chapter Conference in Galway – Travel Awards Available

This year’s SIAM-UKIE National Student Chapter Conference will take place on 26 May at NUI Galway. The aim of the conference is to bring together research students from different universities, giving them the chance to broaden their horizons and see what other students in their research area are working on.

In addition to plenary lectures from Dr Léa Deleris (IBM Dublin) and Prof. Patrick Farrell (Oxford), there will also be a roundtable discussion on careers in the mathematical sciences, chaired by Dr Sinéad Burke of MACSI, as well as research talks from students from throughout Ireland and the UK.

We are pleased to announce that, thanks to generous support from SIAM, travel awards of £130/€150 will be available for one representative from each UK-based chapter to attend and present a talk or poster at the conference.

In addition, a further 10 travel awards of €150 will be made available for students from outside Ireland to attend and present a talk or poster, thanks to generous support from Science Foundation Ireland. These latter awards are open to all, and are not restricted to SIAM members.

We now invite each UK-based chapter to nominate a representative for the SIAM-sponsored travel award.  The nominee should submit an abstract for a talk/poster as soon as possible if they have not already done so.

Applicants for the SFI-sponsored awards should also submit an abstract, and send an email to siam.nuig@gmail.com, stating that they wish to be considered for the travel award. The deadline is Friday 14 April, after which applicants will be notified.

Abstracts can be submitted at the conference webpage: maths.nuigalway.ie/SIAM-Galway/Conference2017.
